Our Georgia Coast has a rich heritage. There are many sites to be seen and to experience. Below are a few that you may want to check out. Click on the pictures to find out more about each attractions.

                  Blackbeard Island                   
​             National Wildlife Refuge

The 5,618-acre island, was named for Edward Teach, best known as “Blackbeard,” a pirate who conducted raids on merchant shipping in the region in the early eighteenth century. It is only accessible by boat.

Fort McAllister State Historic Site
Located in Richmond Hill on the banks of the Ogeechee River, this scenic park showcases the best-preserved earthwork fortification of the Confederacy. Visitors can explore the grounds with cannons, a furnace, bombproof barracks, palisades and more.

Fort King George State Historic Site
Located in Darien, this is the oldest English fort remaining on Georgia's coast. From 1721 until 1736, Fort King George was the southern outpost of the British Empire in North America.

    Harris Neck National Wildlife Reserve
This protected site's 2,765 acres consist of saltwater marshes and opportunities for a variety of activities including hiking, fishing, hunting and bicycling.

     Sapelo Hammock Golf Club
​Sapelo Hammock Golf Course winds through the beautiful coastal marshes and moss-draped oaks of Sutherland Bluff Plantation.  The  18 hole course sits on 171 acres with one mile of marsh front.​

Sapelo Island
The island is accessible only by boat; the primary ferry comes from the Sapelo Island Visitors Center. It is  a seven-mile, twenty-minute trip. It is the site of Hog Hammock, the last known Gullah community.

         The Smallest Church in America
​The still active Memory Park Christ Chapel is called the "Smallest Church in America." Built in 1950, it measures 10 ft. x 15 ft., has space for 13 people, a shrimpy pulpit, pews and a stained glass window with just enough space for Jesus.

          St. Catherine's Island
Often called a barrier Island, St. Catherine's Island is one of the sea islands found along the Atlantic coast of the southeastern United States. It is only accessible by boat.
